Suprio Basu was Assistant Course Director, Rural Awareness and Self-Employment, Department of Sociology, University of Kalyani, West Bengal. He has been Lokniti–CSDS’s coordinator for West Bengal since 2006. His areas of specialization are Research Methodology, Rural sociology, women’s empowerment, Self-help group (SHG), study of democracy & decentralization, and Cultural Studies. As a part of his interest in rural sociology and social transformation, he is actively involved with various governmental and non-governmental organizations working in the field. Besides co-authoring two books, he has also published several articles in prominent journals, edited volumes, and newspapers.
Jyotiprasad Chatterjee is presently Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology, Barrackpore Rastraguru Surendranath College, North 24 Parganas, West Bengal. His research interest includes social movements, sociology of ethnicity, the processes of ethnic identity construction and assertion, the dialectics of democracy and development. Under the scope of doctoral research, his endeavour has been to underscore the sociological dynamics of Jharkhand Movement in India. As a member of the Lokniti–CSDS network from West Bengal, he has been regularly taking part in different national level scholarly debates and discussions regarding the evolving nature of political processes in India with particular reference to West Bengal. He has co-authored a book and has published a number of articles in scholarly journals, edited volumes and newspapers in the fields of social movements, social development, electoral behaviour, ethnic movements, sociology of gender, motherhood, etc. As a member of the team of Sociology of MHRD, Government of India project ‘e-PG Pathshala’, he has written two e-modules in the paper on social movements.
Debprasad Chatterjee, presently Associate Professor, Moulana Azad College, Kolkata. His research interest hovers around different areas within the broader domain of environmental sociology, in general and environmental concern, environmental movement, climate change policy research in particular. He has presented papers in many national and international conferences, both in India and abroad. He has published article and Book Reviews in reputed international journals and worked as a Reviewer of ‘International Sociology’. He was an Associate at the Indian Institute of Advanced Study, Shimla. He also taught a course on environmentalism in India and the USA at the Oklahoma State University (OSU), Stillwater, OK, USA as a Fulbright Visiting Lecturer in the Spring Semester 2011. As a Fulbright scholar, he delivered a number of invited lectures at different Universities in the USA. Recently, he has been elected as a Board member of the RC 24 of International Sociological Association. His name was also included in the 2010 and 2011 Edition of Who's Who in the World.
